The Next Big Trend

I have an amazing eye for what the next big trends are going to be. I can't really explain it, but it usually starts out by me finding something that I really like because it's different and I haven't seen something like it before, then I start to slowly see similar styles pop-up here and there, and then BAM! It's the new trend for the season. Lately I've had my eye on clothes with a 1920's style and art deco essences. And I've been into fringe for well over a year, probably more like two years now... I own this awesome fringe leather jacket and a fringe leather bag. So mark my words, the next big trends are going to be fringe, and 1920's style and art deco pieces.

Here's what I have my eye on

Have Yourself an Ugly Little Christmas

Friday night the Beer Garden that Russ and I frequent, The Plattdeutsche, had their annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. Just like Halloween, the entertainer for the evening was Bruce Jacques. He is so awesome. He's a one-man-show comedic musician and he's great at what he does. He's just perfect for any type of party. And the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party was a blast! Everyone was in the holiday spirit in their "ugly sweaters", and there was a contest for who had the ugliest sweater. It really was a great night. Good food, great music, and just an all around great night of dancing and partying.

Here are some pictures from the night, some taken by my husband and the others taken by The Plattdeutsche's photographer. You can view The Plattdeutsche's entire album here.

Me and Russ in our "Ugly Sweaters". We decided to go to the party last minute and we didn't have any ugly Christmas sweaters so we went to Sears before we headed to the Beer Garden and picked up these funny Joe Boxer Christmas shirts. I eventually wound up taking the shirt off because I was so hot from dancing and by how many people there were.

That's a Wrap!

So this year's Christmas gifts are all wrapped. Of course I'm the one who always has to wrap everything because, no offense to my husband, he can't wrap gifts to save his life. But I have a bad back and whenever I'm sitting on the floor wrapping everyone's gifts for hours my back starts killing me and hurts me for days. So this year I decided to just use gift bags. Brilliant idea! It's inexpensive and easy, but still looks cute and put-together.

Here are the gifts

I'm not a conventional girl and I LOVE these patterns, and with the cute little gift tags, it still adds some element of a conventional Christmas design. To me, these gift bags couldn't be more perfect :)

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!

So our new windows have finally been installed! The company that installed them still has to come back and finish the spackling which they offered to do today, but we wanted to decorate for Christmas so we'll be making an appointment for them to come back after the new year.

Just to give you an idea of what all the windows in our whole house look like, here are the new windows in our living room

Now remember they're not completely finished, but they'll look fabulous when they are.
So now, like I said, with the new windows in, my husband and I were able to put up our Christmas decorations. I love Christmas and I'm so happy the decorations are up. We bought and decorated our tree, and put up all of our other decorations last night while watching Christmas movies all night. It really put me in the holiday spirit, and next I'll be wrapping my Christmas gifts!

Window Drama and Recent Hauls

Oh my goodness SO much has been going on lately. My husband and I are getting all the windows in our house replaced and the company hired to do the job was scheduled to come on Monday. Sunday we got the house ready. We removed everything EVERYTHING away from and off the walls, covered everything with dropcloths in the center of every room to protect them. Then early Monday morning, because they were supposed to come at 8am, I put my three cats in their carriers along with all their food and food bowls and their litter box and brought them over to my mothers house (it would've been a nightmare if the cats where there while the work was being done) while my husband took off from work so he could stay at the house to overview the workers and the work being done. Well it turned out that without any notice, the company decided to cancel on us. We couldn't get an answer, a reason, or a resolution to the problem out of anyone. Then I finally got through to the receptionist of the company and she was so rude. We finally got it rescheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, so my husband didn't have to waste another day off of work, but it has been so annoying living in the house with everything all over the place and of course with the cats (especially our new kitten) thinking the dropcloths are giant forts for them to play with. I can't wait for tomorrow and for all this to be over with so things can get back to normal and I can organize and clean the house.

In the meantime though, Sunday, after my husband and I got the house ready for the window installers, my mother and I went to a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show event. They showcased the new styles that they were going to have at the Fashion Show. They had a great DJ, and raffles, and food and drinks. It was a lot of fun and a really great, needed break from the shenanigans that were going on at my house. They also had a really great sale: $25 off a $100 purchase, $50 off a $200 purchase, and $75 off a $300 purchase, along with getting a free makeup bag and kit with a $75 purchase. They also had fitters there guaranteeing a perfect bra fit which I so needed. I was wearing a size 32C, but my boobs always felt so tight in my bras and they were always popping out of them. So I thought maybe I needed a bigger band size. So at first, that's what the fitter thought too and she gave me a 34C to try on, but the band was too big. Turns out it wasn't the band size that was too small, it was the cup size so I'm actually a 32D. I'm so happy I got fitted and am now wearing the proper size bra. My bras are so comfortable now. Getting a bra fitting is so important. So many woman are walking around wearing the wrong size bra. Go and get a bra fitting. It will make you feel so much better in your clothes and so much more comfortable in general. So I bought two new bras while at the event and got my free makeup bag and kit.

Here's what I bought, and the free makeup bag and kit

"Hope Will Never Be Silent" -Harvey Milk

I know Harvey Milk day is May 22, but it being the anniversary of his terribly unfortunate assassination and it being Thanksgiving tomorrow, I thought it appropriate to honor his memory today. I am so thankful for the great things he did for minorities and the LGBT community. He was a great man and it is terrible that his life was cut so senselessly short by a man who got away with it by a "Twinkie Defense".

Thank you Harvey Milk.

Makeup Haul

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment early in the morning and then I ran some errands. One of the stores I stopped off at was RiteAid to pick up some more Static Guard. While there I saw that they were having a sale on Maybelline products, buy 1 get 1 50% off. I love Maybelline so I jumped on that opportunity to pick up some makeup.

Here's what I picked up

Remembering Our President

Today marks the 50 anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's funeral.
On November 22, 1963, he was unfortunately assassinated. Let us remember and honor him, along with his wife and children.

At H&M, It's Black Friday Everyday!

While scrolling through my Facebook notifications, I came across H&M's promotion for their Black Friday Countdown. Today they have a terrific 70% off sale on pants. I've been applying for part-time jobs to get myself out of the house and to bring in some extra income while I'm at it, so I need some pants that are appropriate for work. I used to be a paralegal before I got married and even then I wore mostly skirts and dresses. I actually only owned one pair of pants that weren't jeans and I'm definitely due for an update. There's almost nothing I love more than a good sale so this was an awesome score!

Here are the pants I purchased

Corduroy Pants

I haven't ever worn or tried on this style of pants from H&M before so I hope their size chart measurements are actually true-to-size. I'll let you guys know when they're delivered. I'm a size 29" waist and 38" hip so I ordered them in a size 10. We shall see. In the meantime, hurry and check out the sale! They just added accessories to the sale and they'll be adding new items everyday until Black Friday.

Shop & Enjoy! And let me know what great deals you score.

Style Secrets

Here are my secret weapons that I use to make sure I'm always looking fabulous. They're cheap, quick, and easy.

Static Guard: I never put on my clothes without spraying Static Guard on them first. Static cling is never a good look and you never want to be caught with it. So just make sure to spray some on before you leave the house and you'll be good to go for the rest of the day. I also use it on my hair.  Just spray some on your brush and comb the Static Guard through your hair to get rid of fly-aways. Another quick-tip, spray some in the inside of your hat, especially in the wintertime, and you'll never have hat-head again.

Nailed It!

Usually when I do my nails I like to use bold or bright colors. I love deep reds and hot pinks and glitter, and I'm also a huge fan of Sally Hansen's Salon Effects. I love all the unique patterns. But today I decided to try a new color, O.P.I's "Pink-ing of You".

I wanted a change of pace. I thought this was a really pretty pale pink that could be a neutral, nude color. I only used one coat to get the effect I wanted and I love the way it came out. Definitely much different than what I'm used to, but still pretty and very feminine.

What are your favorite nail polishes?

Cotton Anniversary

The traditional second wedding anniversary gift is cotton. So of course with me loving to follow those old wedding traditions, my husband and I wouldn't have gotten each other anything else. However, even though I love to follow tradition, that doesn't mean I don't want to put a modern twist on things. I think that's the fun with traditions. You can follow them, but you can still make them modern and put on your own twist on them. And boy did I put my own twist on my gift to my husband. We aren't a very "lovey-dovey" couple so I wasn't going to get my husband anything mushy. I got him something that both expressed my love for him and still had a sense of humor... personalized cotton boxers!

And he absolutely loves them :)

For me, my husband had known that I missed being able to wear my "Bride" and "Just Married" shirts and sweatshirts and panties... and just everything bridal. You see, recently my brother got married and for my sister-in-law's shower, along with gifts that both she and my brother had registered for, I got my sister-in-law a "Bride" tank top and a cute pair of bridal panties (no longer available at Victoria's Secret) because I knew how much I loved wearing bridal apparel when I was getting married and I wanted her to feel the same way. So after continually listening to me talk about how cute the shirt and panties were and how much I missed wearing mine, Russell decided to buy me something "bridal" that was still appropriate for someone who has already been married for a while to wear...

He got me a beautiful custom cotton black sweatshirt (not as bridal as white would've been) with our last name and our "established" date written on the back with rhinestones! My husband knows how I love to sparkle :) I love love love the sweatshirt so much, and I'll be able to wear this forever whenever I want.

We actually exchanged our gifts on Saturday night.  We kind of made a whole anniversary weekend out of our celebration. Friday night we stayed in while my husband made us a fantastic dinner and then we watched movies all night with a bottle of my favorite champagne Martini & Rossi Asti. Then, like I mentioned in my last post, we went out to dinner at one of our favorite Italian restaurants on Monday night. We had a delicious dinner, once again, sharing a bottle of Asti champagne.

Here's my look from the night.

Close-Up of my makeup with one of my new favorite lipsticks, from Maybelline's new Plum Collection, #410 Blissful Berry

And of course no outfit would be complete without accessories
My new favorite ring (aside from my wedding set) Sain Ring from Swarovski. Buy it here

So I hope everyone else had a great weekend. Let me know, do you follow the traditional wedding anniversary gift guide?

I wished for you!

Two years ago today, my husband and I were married! I can not believe it's already been two years. It seems like it was only yesterday. We got married on 11.11.11 because 11:11 has a very special meaning for the both of us.

Frosting

I decided to personally bring back frosted lipstick. I am not one to follow trends. I do not care what the "powers that be" in the fashion world say is hot. I wear whatever I think looks good and makes me feel great, and frosted lipstick makes me feel delicious. I haven't worn it in a while because I've been really loving bright vivid colors lately, but I'm going to put my frosted color back into my lipstick rotation.

Flower Power

On particularly gloomy days like it is today in New York, or just when I'm feeling blue, I like to find ways to brighten up my home and my mood. One of the easiest and, for me, the loveliest ways to do that is to buy fresh flowers. I find flowers to be so cheerful and happy. It's the reason why people deliver flowers to their friends and family when they're sick or on their birthdays. So why not send yourself some flowers? You deserve it! My favorite flowers are hydrangeas and orchids.  Those were the two types of flowers I had at my wedding. They are both just so lovely. Hydrangeas are so big and full, and orchids are so exotic and flowing. And they both come in so many different, beautiful and vibrant colors. How can one not be happy by receiving hydrangeas or orchids, or any other type of flower?

Here are some pink hydrangeas I recently picked up.

Less is More?

I'm usually a more is more girl. More sparkle, more jewelry, bigger diamonds! But, when it comes to bathing suits, I'm finding myself saying less is better. I have yet to find a good bikini bottom that fits me correctly. String bottoms? They always come tied way too tight and just try and readjust the strings... impossible! And every other bottom I've tried just doesn't cover me right. Something is always just off. So now that I have the perfect bikini top which I found last winter at Victoria's Secret Semi-annual Sale, I thought it was time to find the perfect bikini bottom. I've decided to go with as little as possible, a thong.

Happy Halloween

Halloween is my husband's favorite and my second favorite (Christmas being the first) holiday of the year! We love decorating the house, dressing up and going to great parties, the trick-or-treaters... I've noticed though, at least where we live, that there are barely any trick-or-treaters at all anymore. I remember as a child as soon as school let out everybody running to change into their costumes and going all around the neighborhood to collect candy. It was great. Now I never get any trick-or-treaters at my house, and when I drive around I might see a few smatterings of them here and there, but nowhere near like it was when I was a child. I find it sad. I'm hoping it's just my neighborhood which my husband and I plan on moving out of so, when we do move, it will be like it used to be for our future children.

But other than the trick-or-treaters, Halloween is still great. This year my husband and I went to a great annual party at a local Beer Garden last Friday night to celebrate. Here are a few pictures we took from the party...
